"CIVILIAN REFLECTIONS" A contibution by the students and staff at the John H. Sununu Youth Services Center
You can't help but notice them, the camouflage uniforms, the clean appearance, the heavy backpack, the sense of purpose, the sense of duty and the sense of decency.
They command the environment they walk through. Yet, nothing quite prepares you for when you look closely and see how young these American soldiers are. These are our children, they are our future, these are the men and women we owe so much.
Here is an idea. The next time you travel, tuck a Thank You card in your purse, your carry-on, your electronics case and hand it to a travelling soldier.
Have your children create the card or pick one up the next time you shop. Let these young soldiers know your personal appreciation, let these young soldiers know you recognize the sacrifice, let these young soldiers know that you are grateful for their service.
If you have the financial ability, tuck a $10.00 McDonalds / Dunkin Donuts / Starbucks gift card (every airport has these icons of fast food). War for us is on a 52 inch, flat screen HDTV. War for them is responsibility beyond comprehension. Take the time to say thank you. These soldiers will appreciate the effort, and you will be a better person for taking the time.
